On 7th April this year myself and my partner adopted a beautiful lurcher called Shadow from Flushdyke stray kennels . We were told that the injury to his tail was not serious and would heal within a few days but would require bandaging and keeping clean . We paid the full adoption fee for Shadow.
His tail was still bleeding a lot despite doing as we were told and we could see that the end section had become black so we were worried . We described this in a call to the vet who told us he needed to be seen as an emergency as his tissue was dying ( necrosis) and could become infected quickly . We took him straight to be checked and learned his tail was infected and the tip of it needed to be amputated to stop this spreading . We , of course, arranged for this to happen immediately to make sure he was ok . This examination and operation cost us £1260.
At his check up it was found the infection was still there and more of his tail needed amputating to get him well. This was at a cost of £1090.
We are a couple who have recently bought our first house and don’t have that sort of money . The insurance policy was not valid as all this happened before the 2 weeks when we would have been covered but it couldn’t wait .
I contacted the kennels to ask if they were able to help with the bills and the woman I spoke with , I think the manager, just told me to take him back . I had thought they would be helpful as the injury had happened in the kennels .
We love Shadow and have had borrowed money from my grandparents, so I want to pay them back .
I am asking if animal lovers out there could please contribute any amount to help with this massive vet bill that was totally unforeseen and beyond our means . He was treated at Vets4pets Birstall.
Thank you for any support you can offer.
