Upon losing our little Penelope to a miscarriage in October of 2025, we realized there’s a huge gap of compassion in the healthcare system. Hospitals take care of the physical aspect of miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss, but there is no one there for the mental anguish mothers and fathers experience. This is why we need your help creating comfort kits to fill that gap. These kits offer gentle, compassionate support during an incredibly difficult moment.
Overview of the Comfort Kits:
• Intended recipients: Mothers experiencing miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss
• Distribution: At the discretion of hospital staff within Labor & Delivery and outpatient OB/GYN offices
• Cost to the facility: None
Kit contents (adjustable based on clinic preference):
All items are new, unused, and religiously ambiguous.
TO CREATE EACH BOX THE COST IS $20
Typical contents may include:
- Differentiation of kits between a miscarriage, stillborn, or infant loss
- Handmade baby blanket to correspond with loss age
- Literature about the grief process along with physical healing from a loss
- Self-care items such as lotion, bath items, journaling kits, grief books, etc.
- Herbal tea packet or comfort beverage
- Tissues
- Small grounding items (such as a smooth stone or worry object)
- A brief, neutral message of support
- Spirituality items that don’t subscribe to one religion but include messages of prayer
- Candle
- Keepsake items to help mothers have physical items to remind them of their baby
Funding:
The kits are funded through community donations. No volunteers receive personal compensation.
Thank you for making such a huge difference for families experiencing one of the most tragic losses life can bring.
