Hugs for Havala
Donation protected
What were you doing two months ago? Havala was getting ready for a fun summer with her 11 year old daughter, Ava. Both of them love the outdoors--camping, hiking, going to the lake—all kinds of adventures! Those plans changed drastically on 4/18 during a visit to the doctor for what Havala thought was something minor. The doctor referred her to an oncologist surgeon. After multiple blood draws, being poked, prodded and scanned…the results were in.
IT IS OVARIAN CANCER. CANCER????? SERIOUSLY??
Instead of a pity party, she scheduled surgery for May 16. She had a complete hysterectomy along with removal of some lymph nodes. The surgeon felt one lymph node near her heart was too risky to remove, so he shaved it down hoping that the chemo would take care of it. Amazingly, Havala went home two days later. Strength and determination set in.
She’s going to beat this!
Her first of 6 chemotherapy treatments was 6/18. She’ll lose her hair soon. Instead of crying about it, she’s scheduled an Empowerment Party on July 12 to shave her head and take photos. When this is all behind her, she can look at those pictures and say I BEAT CANCER! She’s also using this as an opportunity to promote ovarian cancer awareness and encourage women to listen to their bodies. Havala had an annual exam in September and there was no sign of cancer.
Two short months. Life as she knew it has changed. Her daughter is old enough to know cancer is a bad thing, but not old enough to understand what her Mom is dealing with emotionally, physically and psychologically. Havala’s courage, strength and determination are what Ava sees.
To help ease a little of the financial burden, we’d like to ask you to donate to "Hugs for Havala." The bills still have to be paid, so anything you can give would be greatly appreciated.
And if you don’t mind, say some prayers for her complete recovery!
