Hugo's mobility chair

Hugo is a six-year-old boy who was born with a rare chromosomal disorder called ‘Wolf Hirschorn Syndrome’, he is legally blind, cannot verbally communicate and is still learning and attempting to walk due to severe developmental limitations.  In his six years, he has spent the equivalent of one year in hospital and has more medical professionals in his life than any six-year-old should have. Hugo is cared for by his grandparents, two wonderful people who have dedicated their life to caring for their grandson, but they are not getting any younger and as Hugo grows, they face increasing challenges with mobility.

 
Hugo’s family are determined to give him the same opportunities as other six-year olds; as much as Hugo’s communication is limited he is thriving in the company of other children and the team at St Lucy’s school for children with special needs. Hugo requires the use of a wheelchair and a change table, and the equipment he has now is dated, heavy and has the potential to cause an accident or injury to Hugo or his elderly grandparents. The family does not receive any Government payments or respite, and is caring for Hugo without support. 

 
A new wheelchair and change table would minimise the risk of an accident as well as open up opportunities for Hugo to socialise and interact with his six-year-old buddies. You can help!
