Dear friends and family,
On Saturday April 15, 2017, Hugo Rivera was involved in a horrific hiking accident in the San Gabriel mountains. He was in the middle of helping a fellow hiker in trouble, when he slipped and rolled down a cliff, 400 feet. He was airlifted to a hospital, and was admitted in extreme critical condition (please see the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Press release here: http://www.highlandnews.net/news/crime_and_fire/hikers-rescued-from-cucamonga-peak/article_91a267a4-22be-11e7-aec3-73f4097242d1.html). Doctors performed emergency surgery to try to fix a severe spinal chord contusion with a bent ligament and a brain contusion. He has undergone five blood transfutions. Currently, he is still in critical condition in Intensive Care, and is slowly being weaned off a respirator. He is fighting bronchial infections. Doctors are trying to stabilize his low blood pressure. He is slowly showing signs of movement in his upper extremities, but his outcome is still uncertain. Further corrective surgeries are possible.
If you know Hugo, you are aware that he is an outstanding citizen, a devoted husband, an incredibly loving father of two (a 17 and a 10 year old), a wonderul friend and the type of person who always puts the welfare of others before himself
His family suddenly finds itself in a profound, life-changing predicament in which unexpected expenses will soon begin to overwhelm. Your thoughtful donations, no matter the size, are a God-send, and the Rivera family will forever be in your debt.
