On 5 June 2025 Hugh sadly left us after a short battle with dementia.
Hugh (or Hughie as he went by to those who knew him) leaves behind his wife, Beryl, daughter, Beverley (and son-in-law Philip) and grandchildren Jonathan, Daniel and Melissa. Papa - as he was affectionately known to his three grandchildren - was our shining star and his loss has left a big hole in the heart of our family.
Hugh was a true gentleman who unfalteringly supported his family every day of his life, in any and every way possible. His energy, love and commitment to all around him is irreplaceable and he leaves his loved ones with nothing but fond and happy memories.
Hugh's kindness, generosity and humour extended beyond our family to all those who had the fortune of knowing and meeting him. Up until the end, Hugh's caring nature shone through as he continued to look out for his family, friends, neighbours at home - and even fellow residents during his time at Hilbre House - even into his final days.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Hilbre House who provided warm, dignified and compassionate care throughout his final days and weeks.
We are kindly requesting that donations are made to Dementia UK in lieu of floral tributes. Please see below for further information on the incredible research and support carried out by Dementia UK.
