Hudson's fight against leukaemia - family support fund
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
We're reaching out on behalf of our dear friend Joann and her partner Toby and their family, who are facing an unimaginable challenge—their beautiful 3-year-old son, Hudson, has been diagnosed with leukaemia.
Just days ago, Joann, Toby, Hudson, and his big brother Xavier were enjoying a fun family weekend—life was normal. Then what started as a routine concern quickly spiralled, and within days, Hudson went from being a happy, playful three-year-old to beinf urgently transported to Hobart and undergoing blood transfusions, lumbar punctures, the placement of a PICC line, and the start of chemotherapy. Their world changed overnight, and they were all suddenly thrust into the overwhelming and often frightening world of hospital and medical procedures.
In typical Jo and Toby style, they are being incredibly strong and practical and facing this challenge head-on, despite how scary and heartbreaking it is. They are keeping their friends and family up to date and taking care of their two gorgeous boys. Everything is very unknown at the moment—but there is a long journey ahead.
Joann and Toby are very independent and hesitant to ask for help—not because they don’t need it, but because they don’t want to feel like they’re asking too much of anyone. They expect nothing from anyone—but those of us who love them know that no family should have to go through this alone. It’s their friends who have encouraged them to accept support during this incredibly difficult time.
The goal:
We’ve set a modest goal to help cover some of the immediate expenses for Joann, Toby, Xavier and Hudson during this challenging time. While this is just the beginning of a long journey, the funds raised will assist with the costs they are already facing, and any additional contributions will make a lasting difference as their situation evolves. This is a lengthy journey, and your support, whether big or small, will help ease the strain during this uncertain time.
Hudson’s treatment means they have had to leave their home in Scottsdale and relocate to Hobart for at least six weeks, with further treatment planned in Launceston. The financial strain of this is significant:
- Joann and Toby both have very supportive workplaces. They have both taken leave to be with Hudson in Hobart and continue to care for Xavier too.
- As a casual worker, Toby has no paid leave.
- While the incredible Ronald McDonald House is helping with accommodation, other costs of travel, food, and everyday expenses are all out-of-pocket.
- Household bills like rent and utilities still need to be paid while they’re away.
All donations will go towards:
- Travel costs between Scottsdale, Hobart, and Launceston.
- Food and everyday living expenses while away from home.
- Household bills (rent, utilities) that continue despite their absence.
- Any additional out-of-pocket medical costs.
We know times are tough for many, and Joann and Toby would never expect anything—but if you are in a position to help, every single donation, big or small, will make a difference. If you can’t donate, simply sharing this fundraiser or sending a kind message of support means the world.
Joann and Toby provide us updates on Hudson’s progress when they can, but their priority will always be their two boys. With their permission, I will share updates as I am able, so everyone can follow along and continue to support them.
Joann, Toby, Hudson, and Xavier are showing incredible bravery in the face of the unknown. Let’s come together as their friends, family, and community to remind them that they aren't alone.
Thank you ❤️
