Help bring my Daddy home
My 74 year old Father, Peter Thurgood decided to up and leave England 17 years ago to go and follow his dreams in Thailand.
He worked 6 days a week 12 hour shifts and on the 7th day he would come and pick me up from my Mum’s house and spend the day with me and my Brother, Lee.
Many many holidays at Butlins, Norfolk Broads and on the Thames.
He was and is a fantastic Father to me.
He met Pong, his Girlfriend 15 years ago and he has lived his dream.
BUT…..
Last year he went into a diabetic coma and was rushed to hospital. His heart was failing him and needed to have a pacemaker fitted.
Because all this happened so fast, Pong didn’t have access to his bank account and have to talk with the bank to get the money to pay for the operation.
It took a few days to get the funds (£27,000) and paperwork signed by me (his next of kin)
Then at long last the operation could go ahead.
All went well and he started to come out of his coma.
It’s then that his vascular dementia started and he had had a stroke.
We are unsure why all this came on so quick but as care was with held until funds were paid, this may have caused the stroke and dementia.
He went back to live with Pong and she cared for him as best she could for about 9 months.
His care needs have changed.
His right side of his body no longer works due to the stroke and he believes that his right arm and leg belong to someone else who is trying to hurt or kill him. So he is hitting his own arm to “get it away from him”
This is making him angry and he doesn’t understand.
He is now bed bound. He cannot stand and cries for help all night.
Pong could no longer cope and phoned me almost every day for me to help calm him down.
He would believe he needs to go to work.
He believed Lee was his boss and rung him to quit his job.
He is now at Namthip Nursing Home but his funds are running out.
He has to pay £2,000 a month for his care.
Then pay for every hospital visit at around £500.
And also £600 per month for his medicines.
He has…
Type 2 diabetes
Chronic Renal Failure stage 3
CKD Stage 3
Parkinson’s Disease
Vascular Dementia
He is almost blind.
So with everything that is happening.
He wants to come home.
He needs medical treatment at home.
I have contacted care homes here in the UK and he would need to be funded through the government.
He needs a medical assessment and to apply for funding with the local council.
This cannot be done until he is in the UK.
I can’t get him to the UK until he has a care home in place.
I am literally on a roundabout and no one will help me.
Neither he nor us (me or my brother) have the funds to bring him home.
The cost of a medical Repatriation is…
Medical escort
£6,820 - £10,231
Air Ambulance
£88,923 - £133,385
I have contacted the British Embassy who have told me that they cannot help as this isn’t an emergency.
Social Services cannot help at all as he needs to be in the country for an assessment to be done.
I asking for help with the costs for me to travel to Thailand, isolation at a hotel of the Thai governments choice (which I will have to pay for) https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand/entry-requirements#entry-rules-in-response-to-coronavirus-covid-19
then for me to collect my Father from Namthip Care Home and take him to Bangkok airport. Fly him home, which will have to be business class due to his condition.
I will stay with him and get him back to the UK.
Then I can start the process of getting him the care and love he deserves.
He will be leaving his home and his Girlfriend Pong (of 15 years) back in Thailand.
All costs will be approximately £10,000.
Please help. Anything anyone can spare, no matter how little, will get Dad one step closer to being at home.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤️
