ALLEN TEMPLE AN HISTORIC LANDMARK
IN THE COMMUNITY . RALLY TO REBUILD NEEDS YOUR CONTRIBUTION. The historic 9,500 square foot church building was damaged by a double fire on Feb. 7, 2015
Allen Temple CME Pastor Reverend Doctor LeRoy Haynes, Jr. a noted author and civic leader and the membership of the church are strong voices for community advocacy and peace. They are committed to continuing their services to the community with these programs:
• Food Bank accessible to all who are hungry;
• Counseling services, resources and referrals for those with HIV and Aids.
• Counseling, services and resources for those living with any kind of addictions;
Meeting conference room that may be scheduled and used by community members and organizations.
The cost to rebuild the structure will be covered by the building insurance; however, the building upgrades are not covered and thus require additional funding for the following:
Making it more accessible to people and staff with disabilities by meeting a higher standard of ADA requirements, such as an elevator chair;
• Proper lighting and signage to ensure that areas are appropriately designated and lit to meet the function of the space and outside areas;
• Energy Star-efficient appliances;
• Added energy-efficient insulation for exterior walls;
• Upgrade the third floor balcony for more usable accessible space;
• Child daycare center operated by a local business owner.
All of the appliances for the kitchen and bathrooms will be energy star efficient and low-flow in an effort to save water. The added insulation for exterior walls will improve thermal performance and lower heating/cooling bills.
All of these improvements will make Allen Temple CME a viable contributor to the livability of the neighborhood.
The overall renovation will also include the upgrade of the home next door that belongs to Allen Temple CME membership, which hasn’t been utilized due to the current dilapidated state of the structure. We are proposing to use this structure to provide more community services that fall in line with our mission to be a service to our community.
CareltonHart Architects, Bill Hart is the architect for the project and we hope to have the majority of this work completed by local minority and women contractors and the workforce from local apprenticeship programs.
On behalf of the community we encourage you to support Allen Temple and prevent the loss of yet another landmark building in the community by supporting us with a contribution to rebuild.
