I'm Rachel. I'm 52 years old. Last year, my son and his fiance lost their jobs due to no fault of their own. We have been living in a motel for the past 9 months (with 3 kids ages 8,4, and 9 months). I've been working 7 days a week at 2 part-time jobs to keep a motel roof over our heads. A few months ago, I discovered a sore on my foot that won't heal. Last week, I was diagnosed with stage 2 nodular melanoma. I applied for medical through the state but was denied because I make $300 more a month than the poverty limit (but all of my paychecks go to the motel). I quit my day job so I could qualify for MediCal and they still denied me. My son and his wife help with bills as much as they can. I cant keep paying the motel or get medical care. We will be homeless after June 6th. My survival rate is higher if I get help immediately. I found a place to live but I need help moving there, paying for rent, paying for surgery ( or chemo if needed), and help during my recovery.
