Support Trevor's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
This fundraiser is being organizer by Stacey Roney and Elizabeth Gyruko on behalf of Kerry and Trevor Hungerford
When the unimaginable happens, it takes your breath away. And that is what happened a short time ago to the Hungerford family. At the young age of 17, Trevor was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Trevor is experiencing something no child should ever have to face: a cancer diagnosis and all the complications that come with it, multiple medical procedures, a long and physically grueling chemotherapy protocol, and a challenging treatment road with an uncertain medical future.
Please help us support Kerry and Trevor in any way you are able:
- a donation to this fundraiser
- sharing on your socials and/or to your network
- prayers for Trevor's recovery
- words of encouragement
Kerry and Trevor greatly appreciate your support and thank you for any help you can offer, in any capacity.
Your support will help cover their living expenses, medical costs not covered by insurance, and everyday necessities. You sharing this fundraiser to your socials and friends will help spread the word, which is such an important element. And your words of kindness and prayers will help bolster them up during this incredibly difficult time.
Trevor has battled many, many medical and health issues his entire life, starting at birth. He already has diagnoses of six rare and uncommon diseases (a few of which have no cure), so to then also be diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma has been shocking and a true gut punch.
Even before cancer, Trevor has had more tests and procedures than you can imagine, starting with a week-long hospitalization when he was just an infant, multiple surgeries at age one, over 300 blood draws, 10 endoscopies, many surgical procedures with biopsies, multiple MRIs and CTs, lumbar punctures, and more.
In the process of being diagnosed with cancer, Trevor has endured a bone marrow biopsy, four CT scans, two PET scans, an interventional radiology biopsy, surgery to place a port in his chest, and too many doctors' appointments and blood draws to count.
Trevor is currently treated at Lurie Children's Hospital Chicago and receives chemotherapy every 14 days.
This has been a very rough schedule on his body. How one child can endure so much in his 17 years, and then be hit with cancer, seems unfair and unimaginable, but Kerry and Trevor (along with her other son Zach) are battling through.
This is definitely not the senior year of high school Trevor had envisioned. His entire first semester was plagued by complications including five ER visits, an additional CT scan, two ambulance transports, a hospitalization at Thanksgiving, new onset endocrine problems, and much more. There have been a few life-threatening emergencies, and Trevor is currently under the care of Oncology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology, Allergy, Neurology, and Immunology.
Trevor was dropped from the clinical trial in which he was enrolled due to complications, which then necessitated reverting back to regular chemotherapy, extending for how long he will be in treatment.
Kerry has been the only parent present at all in both boys' lives for the past six years and has had responsibility for them 24/7 by herself. They are facing not only the emotional and physical challenges of fighting cancer but also the significant associated financial costs.
In 2024, Kerry returned to event work, but after Trevor's diagnosis, had to leave in order to stay home and take care of him. She will be unable to seek new employment until after Trevor has completed treatment (successfully, we hope) and after his post-chemo PET scan comes back clean, God willing.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will go directly toward covering the costs of treatment, travel, and care as well as everyday living expenses for Kerry and Trevor.
If you know Kerry personally, you know she is always trying to help others, has kept a positive spirit through almost two decades of debilitating and devastating medical issues for both of her boys, even before cancer struck. If you are in any of many medical FB groups with Kerry over the last 10 years, you know she is constantly answering people's questions, providing resources, helping others, and regularly gets on the phone with complete strangers to offer help and share expertise she has forged after dealing with so many rare and uncommon medical issues of her kids over the last two decades.
Kerry, Trevor, and Zach greatly appreciate your positive words and thoughts, your prayers, your financial contributions, and your sharing this GoFundMe with others.
