Life can sure change, good to bad , vice versa in a flash!

In 2019 life was smooth. Financially, I never envisioned being challenged! I had worked hard and was benifiting from it -

Within a matter of 2 years , all I had worked for and secured became all but gone!!

I had several restaurants in the SF Bay Area. The Covid pandemic came and in two years all was gone. Business actually increased but in an artificial way. DoorDash took the place of the dine in business I had. It actually accounted for 65% of sales. However, DoorDash changed a 25% fee!! In the business, 15% was a profit goal! So basically every day, with great sales I knew I would be losing 10%. Each and every month I’d lose 15 to $20,00. After many months of this and Hundreds of thousands lost- it could no longer be sustained! I had to close, default on leases and in turn was obligated to pay nearly $400 k in lease defaults and other costs! My solid financial base was no more and became a financial mess-

A few years passed and in 2022 I was diagnosed with lung cancer. I underwent a lobectomy and fortunately the cancer was removed and health wise all was great!

I then was blessed to meet my wife Brenda. A sweet, loving, kind daughter of Christ who has added so very much to my life! Her love of God and our Lord Jesus is profound! Life is great, perspective so important!

In the spring of 2024 during a six month follow up PET/ CT scan, several tumors had grown. Lung, pelvis (2), clavicle, and brain!

For The past year, I have been traveling to Stanford Cancer Center from Fresno 3 times a month. Often more, to be treated with radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Some of the treatments have been reasonably tolerated while others not so much.

With my modest finances all gone, the travel, gas, often the necessity for a hotel has been necessary but challenging- though my insurance has been good for the most items and covered them, there are drugs that have extremely high co pays and deductibles! These prescriptions that you’d expect to be $30 are $300 or more!!

So between gas , travel, hotel, medical co pay costs, I’m faced with $7,500 per month of expenses that I don’t have the funds for.

The Chemo has been working reasonably well. Fortunately, some tumors have reduced in size while a few others have appeared new ! My brain tumor is gone completely!

Dr. Labban my Oncologist has told me the treatments will continue as long a I live. There is no end in sight for the process and consequently the expense and discomfort physically that accompany it!

I’ll go back to humility!! Through my entire life, I have never been able to ask for help, favors, or anything in that regard. I would always have preferred to be the one who was asked!!
