Shalom,
If you’re receiving this, you likely know some of what I have been through this past year.
With a false accusation of sexual assault, someone took aim at my reputation and professional standing, costing me my job and necessitating $50,000 in legal fees to respond to the chaos unleashed. The accusations of assault were dismissed with some scorn by a female judge in a San Francisco courtroom who also called the underlying motives into question.
Nonetheless, the allegations managed temporarily to shake up my work life and cause me a lot of pain. If you have any questions about my actions or ethics, I would be happy to answer them as frankly and candidly as I can. Seriously, I would much rather that you asked me than not.
Although I was very ably represented by my attorneys (who cut me breaks whenever possible) in Philadelphia and in California, the process was absurdly prolonged and consequently costly. I fought as long as I could, stopping short of taking my arguments more public and widening the circle of damage.
Throughout the year people have asked what they could do to be supportive. It comes down now to my asking for financial help, and the bigger the help, the better. I will be grateful for anything you can give. A gift of even $18 will make a big difference to me both materially and spiritually. If you are in a position to give more (whether a little more or substantially more) know it will go that much further in allowing me to fulfill my $50K obligation to my legal team without further jeopardizing my financial security and emptying my retirement account in the process. This campaign is being shared privately only — not on social media. Please help maintain that boundary.
I thank everyone for even considering this. I am committed to making the most out of my SO gay Jewish life, my rabbinate, and all my abilities. I could use a hand getting out of the ditch.
Blessings,
David
