Liam Bartleson's Charity

Donation protected

Liam Bartleson was born on March 22, 2014 in Mason City, Iowa.  Hours after birth, Mercy doctors noticed Liam having apneic episodes and decided it would be best to transfer him to Iowa City Children's Hospital for further care.  During his month stay at ICCH, Pediatric Neurologist's identified his episodes as apneic seizures. Liam went home April 18, 2014 and thereafter was in and out of ICCH every other week because his seizures were not controllable at home.  Liam would have 100 to 200 seizures daily, each seizure made his oxygen go down to life threatening levels.  After failing countless anti-seizure medications, narcotics, and diets, doctors realized there wasn't a medicine  in the world that could save Liam.  Liam was diagnosed July of 2014 with Malignant Migrating Partial Seizures in Infancy (MMPSI), one of the rarest types of epilepsy in the world.  Because of the serious health problems caused by MMPSI most individuals do not survive past infancy or early childhood.  Liam's Pediatric Neurologist at ICCH was in charge of a Trial Case Study for Cannabidiol that was showing great success.  Because of Liam's severity, Dr. Joshi got Liam to be approved for the Case Study and started him on it in August of 2014.
Now, at 3 years old, Liam has amazed his own doctors and doctors all over the world.  Because of the success with Cannabidiol, Liam is now a published story around the world to help doctors with children similar to Liam. Liam is the definition of a miracle child. Liam was never supposed to eat, swallow, vocalize, see, hear, or be awake and he has beaten every single one of those odds. He is also down from 100 to 200 seizures to 0-5 a day.
Liam's parents are Mitch and Katy Bartleson.  Mitch, child of Stephen Bartleson and Jody & Kevin Harmon, grew up in Forest City and has been employed with the Forest City Police Department for 6 years.  Katy Bartleson, child of Thomas and Kat Montgomery, also grew up in Forest City and has been in employed at Hair Designs for 7 years.  This fundraiser is to help the Bartleson family purchase a Service dog for Liam.  The dog will be used to help alert  Liam's parents when he is having a seizure, be a companion, help push doors open for Liam as he is in a wheel chair, and many other things.
You help will be forever appreciated.  Thank you.
