Everyone meet Denise
Denise Suraci was recently diagnosed with a rare neurological condition called Transverse Myelitis. After losing complete feeling and motion from the chest down, Denise was rushed to the hospital. After many MRI's, a spinal tap, and other testing the results showed Denise has TM.
Transverse myelitis is a neurological disorder caused by inflammation across both sides of one level, or segment, of the spinal cord. The term myelitis refers to inflammation of the spinal cord; transverse simply describes the position of the inflammation, that is across the width of the spinal cord. Attacks of inflammation can damage or destroy myelin, the fatty insulating substance that covers nerve cell fibers. This damage causes nervous system scars that interrupt communications between the nerves in the spinal cord and the rest of the body. Each case of TM varies in severity and the long term prognosis is unknown.
Denise has been in the hospital for several weeks and has been treated with medications and plasma infusions. She is expected to recover from this rare condition but only after time in a rehabilitation center with hopes to regain strength and learn to walk and other main motor skills again. She is making progress each day and the small things are big victories, however each day also brings many new challanges.
As her family we are some of her biggest supporters, We see the strength and ambition in her and know Denise will recover after time. She has maintained strength through the whole process and is one of the strongest people we know.
As we all know hospital bills, rehabilitation, one income and lack of disability insurance can leave this to be very expensive and overwhelming, especially for a rare condition as this.
I speak for all those who know Denise, she is a great mother, wife, sister, friend and overall an amazing person. Denise has always made sure everyone was taken care of and it’s our turn to take care of her. Please consider donating to such a great cause to help out Denise on her road to recovery
