23 week Miracle Twins-Mia/Emilio
Donation protected
On Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 3:47 a.m. Mia Juliana Gutierrez was born into the world as Gutierrez twin #1, our son, Emilio Sabas Gutierrez followed shortly there after at 3:50 a.m. as Gutierrez twin #2. The twins were born at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL via c-section.
Mom was in the hospital for 6 days prior to their birth trying to postpone labor but that was as far as we were able to make it. The twins came into this world at 23 weeks and 6 days gestation. After hearing tons of statistics and plans of action from doctors and nurses about my treatment and what could be the course of action for the twins we were definitely overwhelmed and scared. All we could do was hope for the best and put all of our faith in God's hands and in medicine.
Luckily, mom was able to get 3 rounds of magnesium treatments before they were born to help mature their nervous system and also one round of steroids to help mature their lungs. At that point, that was all that could be done.
The twins were born and sent directly to the NICU, they remained there until at least their due date, August 24, 2015.
We've learned a lot and the babies have given it their all to survive. Their will to live and their strength is so amazing. We were all in awe of the knowledge of the medical staff, especially all of the educated and professional nurses who tend to them. Our little miracles were only 1.5 pounds yet they have more determination than many adults. Mia now weighs 10lbs and Emilio is 12lbs 13ozs! They just reached their 6mth milestone but yet have a long road ahead of Drs. visits and therapy.
The outpouring of love and support has been crucial to Letty and Rocky and will continue to remain an integral part of this healing process. We hope these funds help cover some of the mounting medical expenses and many therapies that are needed.
Letty, Rocky and Rocky Vincent know that they are not alone and are so LOVED and ADMIRED.
Mia and Emilio are true MIRACLES and are so blessed to have you as parents (and big brother)! We hope that these contributions help you and ease some of your stress.
