Hi my name’s Steph Simmons and as some of you may know, we unexpectedly lost my dad to a cardiac arrest in our home, Christmas 2022. As you can imagine this left a massive hole in our family, which will never be filled again - I’m now left trying to navigate my way around this world without the man who was most important in my life but most importantly trying to make him proud. Although he has gone we can still make a difference and make his life memorable.
We were later to find out the cause of his death was a type of cardiomyopathy which hadn’t been diagnosed/was misdiagnosed and also missed in previous cardiac appointments at various hospitals.
This year I wanted to help those whose stories are not only similar to mine, but may have been unfortunate enough to go through this illness while also raising awareness for this disease. Raising awareness and telling people about signs and symptoms of cardiomyopathy can help save a life and encourage people to get checked by their doctor. This could lead to an early diagnosis and assist someone to live with this disease with the correct support and medical help.
Therefore I am doing a charity skydive !! For the charity Cardiomyopathy. Any donations made to the Cardiomyopathy charity can provide expert information, vital support, and hope for the future for individuals and families affected by cardiomyopathy. I have chosen this charity as I feel it is best suited to mine and my family’s situation.
My goal is to rise £1000 for the charity whilst throwing myself out of a plane, but any donations and/or support is appreciated as this cause if very close to my heart. I understand it can be hard to contribute but any amount is greatly appreciated, even if you are just able to share this link to others, that is enough!
The skydive is due to take place in August this year but a date is awaiting to be set (weather dependant also), but it will be happening !! Hopefully this gives me enough time to raise the money I’m hoping to reach!
I’m doing this in memory of Dad and to anyone else going through this. Those of you who know me know how much this means to me, and to those who have been as supportive as you have already, I can’t thank you enough. Thank you for taking the time to read.
