Hi, my name is Jacklyn Avalos and I am funding my mother Yesenia Hernandez’s funeral and cremation expenses. My mother recently passed away on May 21st, 2023 battling an on-going heart failure. Yesenia has been to numerous physical therapy appointments in Wichita in the past 6 months to regulate the wellbeing of her heart. At the start of March 2023, Yesenia has also been traveling back and forth to Kansas City, MO for check ups and appointments in regards to her heart situation. Towards the end of March, a doctor in Kansas City, Missouri transplanted an L-VAD pump onto her heart, in order for the blood to flow through her heart properly. The cause of her heart failure came right after treatment of surviving breast cancer back in late 2021.

Fast forwarded to early Sunday morning on May 21st, my mother started throwing up and screaming out my name to get my attention. She usually has these type of episodes where she cannot catch her breath. I was doing everything I could to provide any assistance she may need. My mother kept repeating to me “I feel like I’m leaving”. My brothers and I then called 911 for an ambulance to come pick her up and drop her off at Saint Francis hospital in Wichita, KS. The doctors told my brother and I that they will have to transfer her from Wichita, KS to Kansas City, MO, at Kansas University hospital by a helicopter, because the doctors in Kansas City, Missouri know more details about her L-VAD transplant. I received a call around 12pm about my mom being awake after delivering her to destination, but feeling very septic and unconscious. They tried all the medication and are still trying to get her stable. Around 1:48pm, I got another call saying that they did CPR on her for 40 minutes but unfortunately she passed away at 1:36pm.

My mom was such a strong & hardworking single mother who did anything for her kids to have food on the table, clothes on our back and a roof over our head. My siblings and I are going to miss the way we would come home to a home cooked meal, gather in the living room, and have lots of talks and laughs. Most of all, my mom taught us how to be strong and how to survive. She was such a good mother to my younger siblings and I and we will always be beyond thankful God gave us her to be our mom . Yesenia was the type of mom that even though we didn’t have no one she will still do anything to celebrate birthdays and holidays; and the kind of person to be up and active. Everything my mom ever did, she did it right & raised us to make good decision. She always cared & provided for us. For that, we are going to miss the way our mom did things.
