I am writing this on behalf of someone I love very much, and it is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. For a long time, I have watched him fight a battle that most people never see. I have watched him go from someone who dreamed about his future, his career, and his independence to someone who spends so much of his life trying to survive symptoms that doctors struggled to explain. I have seen him pushed to his limits physically, emotionally, and financially while searching for answers that always seemed just out of reach. There have been countless nights of fear, emergency room visits, hospitalizations, specialist appointments, and moments when we genuinely did not know what was happening to his body. I have watched him miss out on opportunities, struggle to work, put his education on hold, and lose pieces of the life he worked so hard to build. What hurts the most is that through all of it, he has continued to fight even when he was exhausted and discouraged. Recently, specialists have begun uncovering some of the underlying causes of what he has been experiencing. Doctors have identified severe neurological dysfunction involving the upper neck and brainstem region, which has been affecting his balance, stability, energy, and ability to function normally day to day. These symptoms have become increasingly disabling and are now interfering with even basic activities like standing, working, and getting through a normal day. There is also concern about significant liver dysfunction as a secondary but important issue, adding another layer of strain on his already fragile health. As doctors continue to investigate the full extent of what is going on and work toward treatment, his condition has continued to decline. For years, he has done everything he could to keep moving forward despite how sick he has been. He has tried to work, maintain his independence, and live as normal a life as possible. But his condition has reached a point where he will likely need to take a leave of absence from work in order to focus on treatment and recovery. The loss of income, combined with mounting medical expenses, has created an overwhelming financial burden. His doctors have recommended extensive testing and treatments, including neurological therapies and other specialized interventions that offer hope for improving his condition and helping him regain some of the life that has been taken from him. Unfortunately, many of these treatments are not covered by insurance, leaving him responsible for costs that are simply beyond what he can manage alone. Some people may have seen photos of him traveling or sharing positive moments online. What those snapshots do not show is the physical toll that comes before and after those moments. They do not show the pain, exhaustion, medical complications, or the effort it takes just to get through those days. They do not show the days spent in bed, the appointments, the setbacks, or the reality of living with a body that no longer cooperates the way it once did. In recent months, his health has worsened significantly, and those closest to him have watched him struggle more than ever before. Asking for help is not easy for him, and it is not easy for those of us who care about him. But we know how important it is that he gets access to the care he needs now before his condition progresses further.
