On Saturday night, May 4th while at home, our Sara suffered a sudden medical episode that stopped her heart. Her 16 year old daughter Lilly found her unconscious and called 911. Courageously, Lilly stayed with her mom performing chest compressions with the guidance of the 911 dispatch operator until paramedics arrived. They were able to get a pulse as she was rushed to the hospital and was admitted to the ICU on life support at St. Rose, where she lay surrounded by family all through the night and the following day. Devastatingly, doctors and various tests confirmed Sunday that Sara no longer had brain function, and by the end of the night, she was gone.
This disaster came to us out of the clear blue sky and we are all in shock from the sudden and most unnatural loss. She was taken too soon and too unexpectedly. She was our little sister and wife and mother and daughter and aunt and best friend. She was a music fanatic, and overflowed with passion with everything she did. She was a lunatic Vegas Golden Knights fan and never forgot her roots as a hometown Texan girl. She was fun and loving, and above all, loved her two children and husband immensely. She was so, so much more than can be expressed here for each of us.
In one final surprise we learned that Sara had agreed to be an organ donor, and in honor of her gift of life, on declaration of the time of death on Sunday we turned her over to the transplant teams who can turn our tragedy into a miracle for another family in their darkest moments.
She leaves behind her young children, 4 year old son Porter and 16 year old daughter Lilly, and her husband, Ethan Kellogg. Her father Ben, her big sisters Jennifer and Tania and their husbands Travis and David, and her many nieces and nephews and cousins.
Ethan, Lilly and Porter need help during this devastating time for their family, left suddenly without their mother and Ethan without his partner in life. The shock of this loss, compounded by the heavy weight of grief and countless expenses that will settle in as they deal with medical expenses, funeral arrangements, Ethan missing work, mental and physical wellbeing, childcare needs, and so much more. Adjusting to life without Sara will be a daunting and difficult endeavor, one that no husband or child wishes to undertake, but must be faced. She was 40 years old.
Please donate any amount you can and know how much it means to us that we have a village, and that Ethan, Lilly and Porter are being held by their village in their pain and loss with the love and care of their friends and community. Even the smallest contributions can make the biggest difference.
We are so very grateful for every donation during this difficult time.
