Coreen Loney's HSCT Treatment For MS

Donation protected
Dear Friends & Family,

I’ve put together this GoFundMe on behalf of my sister-in-law Coreen and her family. She is a loving wife to Tyler Loney and a proud mother of three boys, Austin, Cowyn and Quinten. Coreen was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2018, during her mid-thirties, in the midst of raising a young family. After the last 5 years of undergoing several hospital visits, trying various medical treatments, and countless trips back and forth to her neurologist in Vancouver, she has decided to go forward with HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation) Treatment to help halt the progression of this disease.

Over the past 5 years, her health has been declining and she is no longer able to participate in many of the activities she once loved such as running, skiing, and sledding/quadding trips with her family. She has missed out on family activities & vacations and is no longer able to take her boys on their hockey trips, let alone watch her boys play hockey at the rink here in FSJ. Before her diagnosis, Coreen was a very active member of our community. She volunteered at the Peace Villa Care Home, and Charlie Lake School for her boy's sports teams and track and field days, she also loved participating in the FSJ Rotary Mother’s Day Run & Walk to help raise money for the Women’s Resource Society. Both Coreen & Tyler have volunteered for Taylor Minor Hockey, FSJ Minor Hockey, and FSJ Minor Baseball, and although Coreen is no longer able to volunteer, Tyler still does.

Unfortunately, Coreen is not approved in Canada to receive HSCT treatment due to certain criteria, therefor Coreen has recently applied to a highly reputable, private treatment center in Mexico that specializes in HSCT & they have accepted Coreen as a candidate to receive treatment starting July 3rd. HSCT treatment is aimed at stopping the immune system from causing damage to the myelin so that proper electrical conduction within the nervous system is restored. In addition to the halting of the underlying autoimmune disease, the reinstatement of appropriate healthy signaling from nerves to muscles often results in significant improvement of previous symptoms the patient has suffered from. She has decided to go forward with this treatment in hopes that her quality of life significantly improves and that she will be able to return to being an active member of her community again. But most of all, she would like to be able to spend quality time with her family and not have to miss out on any more memories with those she loves the most.

The cost of this treatment is $56,500 US, plus travel costs, which works out close to $80,000 CAD. She will be at the clinic for 28 days undergoing this treatment. The results of this treatment being highly successful have very good odds because she is younger, and still healthier than those who wait until this disease has progressed even further. She has had many ups and downs over the past five years trying to navigate various symptoms of this disease, not to mention the financial burden it has already cost her and her family with the inability to work & provide a second income for their family, travel costs to Vancouver for treatments, her husband taking time off to travel with her as she is too sick after the treatments to travel by herself, and at times the need for him to stay home and look after her and their boys when she was too unwell to do so.

If you are able to donate, it will be greatly appreciated, and the funds raised will go directly towards the cost of this treatment and helping to regain the quality of her life back. Like most mothers, Coreen is always putting the needs of others before her own but now is the time for her to take control of her health before it may be too late for another chance at this treatment with more successful odds. No donation is too small, or if you are unable to donate, please help by sharing. Thank you in advance for your kindness.
