My sister Marion her husband Matthew and their two girls have been happily preparing to welcome the newest member to their family. However, late in her third trimester, Marion fell ill. After three visits to the ER, Marion was admitted to the hospital on October 27, 2015 for observation. On October 29th she gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

Baby Theo is headed home from the hospital with his daddy today. Unfortunately, his mommy’s neurological symptoms have continued to worsen and she needs to remain in the hospital.

Marion has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. GBS is a rare disorder in which the body’s immune system begins to attack parts of the nervous system resulting in partial or complete paralysis. GBS is recoverable but the recovery process takes months or in some cases even years.
At present Marion has a good deal of pain and she is experiencing paralysis from the waist down and on the left side of her face. The weakness in her arms continues to grow. Often GBS continues to worsen in the first 2-4 weeks and there can be serious complications such as breathing difficulties or cardiac arrhythmias. For these reasons, she will remain in the hospital for the near term.
Marion is determined to make a full recovery, but she has a long road ahead of her. This is a tough time for Marion and Matt. They should be happily welcoming their new son to the family and looking forward to the future. Instead, they are filled with worry and uncertainty about what the future holds. This fund is intended to help offset medical costs and household expenses for the Constantinides family while Marion and Matt work on getting Marion well. Your donation will help to take some of the financial stress off the family during this challenging time.
