Help us start a strong tradition of wrestling in Penobscot County:

For years, the spirit of wrestling has been missing in the Greater Bangor area. Today, we are thrilled to announce the reintroduction of high school wrestling, and we need your support!

Under the guidance of Calais native and esteemed wrestling coach, Aaron James, we have formed a cooperative wrestling team that will represent seven schools: Bangor, Brewer, Hampden Academy, Hermon, John Bapst, Orono, and Old Town. This initiative aims to breathe new life into the sport’s presence in Penobscot County, especially at a time when our children greatly benefit from increased team activities.

Surprisingly, Bangor High, the area’s largest high school, has never had its own wrestling team. Together, we aim to change this.

With Aaron James and Winchenbach having essential roles in initiating club teams at UMaine and Husson, our coaching staff is well-equipped with diverse experiences that will be beneficial to the students.

Why Wrestling?

Wrestling is not just a sport, it's a community. It teaches discipline, resilience, teamwork, and humility. Everyone should get the chance to experience it. Moreover, wrestling is inclusive. With weight classes, it ensures everyone, regardless of their physical attributes, gets a fair chance. And this is not just about men. Women’s wrestling is growing rapidly, and we are its staunch advocates. Our aim is not only to introduce young girls to the sport but also to host a women's tournament right here in Bangor.

To realize this dream, we need your support. While our passionate coaches have committed to training without any remuneration, there are numerous costs associated with starting a team. These include:
