Catching Fireflies: Student Short Film

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Andrew Schlegel, the writer and director of Catching Fireflies. A little bit about me: I am a third-year undergraduate student studying film production at Rochester Institute of Technology with a focus on directing, I love fitness, singing, Spider-Man, and soft cuddly dogs.

Grieving the loss of a family member is always a difficult process. Moving out of a house and having to choose which of their possessions to keep can exacerbate the already difficult process.

Catching Fireflies is a generational family drama about remembering a deceased relative, told from the perspective of the widower, his son, and granddaughter. As the widower moves out his house due to his inability to keep up with it, the family reminisces over one of the lost family member's possessions imbued with hopeful and happy memories.

Although this film tackles a heavy topic, I want it to be hopeful. Each character grieves in their own way, and I want to explore that each of their ways of grieving are valid and beautiful.

This project would not be complete without my amazing crew:

Lucas Sherron: Producer & Assistant Director

  • A 2nd year film student specializing in directing and producing who has a passion for crafting films that evoke strong emotions from the viewer, while thoroughly enjoying organizing films logistically and bringing them to fruition.

Michael DeFranco: Director of Photography

  • Michael is a cinematography student graduating in May with a passion for bringing directors' visions to life. He has shot a wide variety of narratives, documentaries, and commercials but tends to focus on contemplative themes in his work.

All donations will go towards location costs, dressing the set, and feeding the cast and crew.

Thank you for your consideration in donating to this project and bringing it to life!
