Sophia Strong Fundraiser after Recovering from TBI
Donation protected
The way your life can turn completely upside down in heartbeat is astronomical. You see things on TV or social media and think “Wow, that is sad”. You never think it could happen to you. Well, it can. There is no way to prepare for it. My family and I have been hit with the hardest thing we have ever had to overcome so far in life… and we have been through a lot together. I am coming to the community, family, friends, strangers, co-workers, peers, anyone out there. We are all asking for your help. We need to raise money to fix “The Farm” my family house, for it to be in proper condition for my 9-year-old sister to come home to. When is she coming home? We do not know. Here is what we do know…
- On Oct 31st, Myself, Daughter, Mom, sisters and brothers and friends walked around a neighborhood like we do every year for trick or treating. Sophia dressed up as a Vampire and rode around her Nieces Hoverboard in my house. She laughed and played. Being uncontrollably loud. We ate pizza and then they went home early because it was a school night. We said our "I Love Yous" and gave hugs.
- On 11/05, Our mom took her to the Doctor, and she tested Positive for Strep and Flu.
- On 11/08, Sophia was projectile vomiting all day long. She could not even keep down any water and was acting a bit delusional. We all thought dehydration. Our mom took her to the Doctor and advised her she would need to go to ED. She went to ED they gave Sophia Fluids and Anti-Nausea meds and sent her home.
- On 11/10, Our mom took her back to the Doctor due to the strange delusions. The doctor turned her away and said, “It was normal”. Later that day, Sophia did not know who our other sister was saying “Huh I don’t know who you are?”. A few hours after, my mom called me frantically crying because Sophia would not wake up. When she did wake up she was just.. completely out of it. Staring off into nothing with no facial expression or movements. I spoke with her over the phone and nothing she was saying made any sense. At that moment, she was carried to the car and our mom took her to the hospital. Tests were done and over a course of hours that felt like days, Sophia was air lifted after being fully sedated due to brain swelling found on an MRI.
- On 11/13, her swelling was not stopping, and she had Brain Surgery removing pieces of her skull to allow room for her brain to simply… swell. At this point, the Doctors made the call that it is best to have her on Paralytics and Sedation to allow her body to rest. She has been intubated during this time and ended up fighting bacterial pneumonia. Currently, the diagnosis is NMDA Receptor Encephalitis.
- By 12/2, they have had her winged off the paralytics for a few days and we were able to see her open and close her eyes on and off, briefly, for the first time since 11/10. She wiggled her eyebrows and even squeezed my hand. We are hoping she continues to progress so she can have the breathing tube removed soon.
This is a very long road ahead of us all as we wait for recovery and the ability to begin rehab to what comes after the unknown. My role has been to care for my younger 4 siblings so our mom can be with our baby sister. A lot of help has come to me from friends, family and the community to help me simply feed the 4 of them, myself and daughter. At this time, I am calling out to anyone who can help us raise the money we need to bring Sophia home. The “Farm” house is what we all call my moms house. It is the house everyone comes and goes from. It sits on acres filled with livestock. However, the foundation is falling apart, moisture is trapped in the floors and walls, the floors are caving, no insulation, walls are falling apart, etc. This is one of the things where we say “Well get around to it” until life tells you, you are out of time. We are hardworking people. If we cannot raise enough money for a new home. We will rebuild this home with our own hands. I am asking for monetary help, Labor Help when the time comes to put in the work, donations of any kind. We will also be having an array of yard sales, Quarter Auctions, we are also selling animals, etc. to do our part in everything we can do to raise the money we need. If you would like to help but can not donate the help you are able to give through this site. Please contact me directly through whatever method brought you to this site. Thank you all for simply the time it took for you to read this. I know a story like this Is not easy. It is hard to grasp as I write this, that this isn't a story I will be reading from your point of view. This is our reality. I also know times are hard for all of us. However, this is just a time where you must lay aside any pride and ego and just ask. Here goes nothing! Help.
