Displaced, Distressed and Disabled

Donation protected
My name is Holly Matthews and I have started this on behalf of my friend Cherie. We both live in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado. We have been friends for many years after meeting at a disability group in 2012.

Cherie has been residing in a modest 1 bedroom condo that she owned in Colorado for the last 14 years when a roof was installed in 2015. It started leaking within a month of the install. Cherie let her HOA know of the issues within that first month and after.

Cherie and her senior cats have been evacuated for their health and safety. (Cherie's second cat had to be put down in May.) Cherie is under the care of doctors.  She has trouble breathing and high levels of inflammation from the extreme exposure.

Cherie has been disabled since the mid 90’s because of a severe lower back injury from a car accident that was not her fault. Years later she suffered a brain injury while hospitalized. She has been managing on disability for many years, but is not in a position to bounce back from this kind of loss without major help.

She has been forced out of her home through no fault of her own, has existing health issues, and has a very limited income. She cannot afford market housing in the Denver metro area. It may be months to years for her legal team to figure out compensation, if any.

All raised funds are currently being used to support Cherie’s daily needs from continued displacement of her home, food, gas, testing of the condo, … as the insurance does not cover and the HOA is unwilling to help until further evidence is determined, while striving for complete resolution of this situation.

As the situation develops, financial assistance might be used for moving costs, additional expenses that have occurred during the stress of displacement, possible need for household items, and other unknowns that may arise from the situation.

Funds are being withdrawn to a trusted friend, who is helping Cherie decipher how best to utilize the money because of her cognitive problems, the complexity of the issue, along with duration of this issue.

Cherie had a deep faith in God. Cherie believes that by God’s grace she is still here. For all she has been through, she continues to fight for her health and believe God is going to bring her up and out of this, and bring her to a higher place where she can live in peace and thrive.

We appreciate all everyone has done and continues to do. Cherie is very grateful for the love and support during such a challenging time. No donation is too small, and she is forever grateful for your help!
