Richard and his Family

Richard Vaughan, the amazing Head Coach of Fareham Fireflys, was feeling unwell and admitted to hospital suddenly a few weeks ago. He underwent several tests and was unfortunately diagnosed with advanced cancer. This was a massive shock to everyone around him, as he was leaping around the court demonstrating drills only a few weeks prior to this. This week he was given the devastating news that unfortunately there are no treatment options, and he is now at home under the care of the palliative care team.

Fireflys, and the players of all ages within the club, are a massive part of Richard’s life and he has probably coached every team and player at some point over the years.

He is going to be an indescribable loss to the club and we will never be able to replace him, his commitment, support and friendship that he has shown the club, girls, adults, parents over the years.

The news has brought so much sadness to our whole Fireflys family, and we as a committee have been inundated with people wanting to know how they can support Richard or what they can do to help which is exactly what we have come expect from our wonderful club and the wider netball family.

Unfortunately Richard will not be able to enjoy making and completing a bucket list or take the holiday that he definitely deserves, his only thoughts now are ensuring that his wonderful family are going to be OK when he is no longer here to support them. As the main wage earner and a self employed locksmith he is without an income at a time when he should not have to be worrying about anything other than being with the people he loves.

Any money raised will be sent directly to Richard and his family to help them at this devastating time.
