This story is written on behalf of Trevor. We ask for your support as friends and family, so Trevor can get back to good health and firefighting.
Trevor Eman is a 31 year old Brampton firefighter. More than that, he is a person who is always happy, active, and all of the things a young athletic person is.
Before his seven years with the City of Brampton, he moved his life to western Canada for four years to take adventurous and specialized firefighting jobs. Every step Trevor has taken since his early career has involved immense training and studying that would prepare him to be the most reliable firefighter he can be.
(Even at the young age of 2)
After being injured on the job that has his heart, Trevor has been facing mountains to get the medical attention his injury needs.
At the young age of 31, Trevor has 3 severely herniated lumbar discs that shock surgeons to disbelief for someone his age. He lives with debilitating back and nerve pain daily and has taken every action to find a recovery method and seek medical help. From countless MRIs, testings, rehab practices and a previous major surgery to try and resolve the injury, Trevor has yet to find relief and has found a promising outcome with the Artificial Disc Replacement surgery. Trevor has been greatly supported by his family, friends, colleagues, and is fortunate to have support from his employer and WSIB coverage.
In Canada, WSIB coverage only goes so far. Surgery options are slim both in Canada and under WSIBs coverage. Currently, Trevor is returning to work at the capacity that will not only keep his daily pain untreated but also redirect his life to a lifestyle and career path he is not fulfilled by.
The only option for surgery in Canada is spinal fusion. This fusion will leave Trevor with an immobile lower spine and cause further spinal issues. WSIB will not cover medical expenses out of province and will cut coverage for all future support needed for this injury, such as rehabilitation expenses and long-term disability coverage. Trevor is choosing to receive an alternative surgery overseas that’s offered all over the world except Canada; it is the only option he can take to return to the lifestyle he deserves and the job he loves. Taking this step is a significant financial risk, for now and in the future. That’s where we’re asking for your help.
We are fundraising to support Trevor's surgery overseas. This surgery will get him back to heavy firefighting and the active lifestyle he’s always had.
At the end of August 2022, Trevor will receive one lumbar disc fusion and two artificial disc replacements. The surgery costs are broken down below:
Surgery: $31,000 USD
In care-home stay (7 days in hospital/7 days home care): $2,500 USD
Flights: $2,000-$2,500 CAD
Additional costs for imaging and testing such as bone density test, x-rays, emergency testing is TBD by the surgeon on arrival.
With the US to Canadian conversion we are hoping to raise a total of: $48,000
Your support means the world. We will provide updates to friends and family across social media throughout the surgery and recovery process.
Together, we can make this happen for Trevor.
Thank you all for your support.
