Hi, my name is Vic. I am a 19 yo living at home with my family and our family dog. This is my dog Cocos story:

At the start of last year, Coco was a perfectly healthy dog, during roughly april-June, Coco developed a congenital eye disease called Glaucoma.

We began taking her to frequent vet visits to medicate and check her eyes condition, eventually it was at the point where her eyes was causing her pain and the medication would not work anymore.

This was her first of 3 surgeries over the next 12-14 months. She had her first eye removed to stop the pain she was experiencing.

Roughly 10 months later after a period of smooth sailing and a happy dog we noticed she had a mass under her eyes and her eye was going red and cloudy. This prompted some emergency vet visits where it was discovered she had a tooth abcess putting pressure on her remaining eye.

We began treatment for this condition in the hopes it was the primary cause for the development of the glaucoma in her remaining eye.

Eventually the tooth abscess went down and everything seemed okay. She was still being treated with eyedrops to relieve pressure in her eye but it was improving, at her next vet appointment we received the all clear that her eyes had recovered.

Im sure you can imagine how relieved we were, until roughly 24-48 hours later when she went blind. She woke up and was being taken outside to the toilet when she was not her usual energetic self, slow and careful she tried to exit her room into the hallway and ran into a wall.

Alarm bells started ringing and we were all incredibly anxious and off to the vet she was again. At the vet we recieved bad news, her eyes was at an incredibly high pressure and the glaucoma was back, as well as her tooth abscess. This was not the news we were hoping for.

Around 2 weeks ago she went under for the first time this year, the second of 3 surgeries in 12-14 months to remove her infected tooth. the surgery went all smoothly and she was on soft food she could swallow easily.

Then she was referred to an eye specialist for dogs where they determined that we wouldnt be able to reverse the vision damage and any surgery to save the eye would be purely cosmetic. The financial toll we had experienced at this point was starting to show with at least weekly and sometimes 2-3 times a week appointments every consult and pressure test bill was adding up.

We opted for eye removal again to stop her from being in pain. This was a very difficult choice as we were incredibly concerned whether she had any vision left (although we were pretty sure she didnt) this surgery and the tooth removal had cost around $3000 to the family. We were already struggling with the frequent vet visits but this made it all the more difficult.

She had the eye removal on monday and now has no eyes. She is recovering slowly but the financial strain this has put on the family is showing. Any support would be greatly appreciated towards her vet bills And if you cant donate please share around. (My parents do not know I am doing this, I would really like to surprise them with some financial help as I had offered for them to use my reserve savings to pay for her surgeries as I know they were expensive and I wanted to help as much as I could)
