On the afternoon of Saturday, May 15th, my 15 year old cousin Jeremy was riding his bike on West Main Street in Babylon, NY. He was hit by a woman driving a Nissan pick up truck who left him in the road and fled the scene. He was then rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in critical condition. Upon his arrival to the hospital, he required emergency surgery to place a monitor in his brain due to the brain trauma. He was then moved to the intensive care unit where he was intubated, connected to a ventilator, and placed in a medically induced coma. Thanks to a skilled team of dedicated specialists and around the clock care, the hospital was able to wake Jeremy from the coma. We are so grateful that he is alive and here with us but he is far from out of the woods and has a long and difficult road ahead. Due to the brain trauma and various other injuries, Jeremy will need continued care in the hospital and in-home care once he reaches the point of discharge from the hospital. He will require long-term physical therapy to deal with the extensive damage from the accident including neurological deficits due to the brain trauma incurred in the accident.
Jeremy is a genuinely wonderful young man. He is a loving brother and son, an athlete, a dedicated student, and the kind of person who can light up a room just by being in it. My hope is that friends, family, and community members can come together to help ease the burden and pain that this tragic accident has placed on my cousin and his family. This will no doubt have a very real and serious financial toll and during this difficult time this go fund me can help assist them in that aspect. They have been through so much. The only thing that his mother, father, and twin sister should be worried about is loving and supporting Jeremy through this extremely difficult time, not the extensive cost of his care.
If you would please consider donating, we would be eternally grateful. Every dollar counts. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this GoFundMe via the Share link. Thank you so much for your time, consideration, and most of all, your support!
