Support Andrew's Recovery
Donation protected
On August 5th, Andrew entered the hospital with two cardiac arrests caused by a pulmonary embolism. The cardiac arrests led to many complications including a hypoxic brain injury. In the first two months, Andrew had many setbacks which resulted in multiple induced comas and prevented him from beginning rehabilitation. For the past 4.5 months, Andrew has been in an intensive neurorehabilitation unit focusing on his recovery. Andrew has been brave and graceful during his stay in the hospital and we’re excited to share that he is now home.
While Andrew has improved immensely since his brain injury, he’s still working to recover from multiple deficits. He has been diagnosed with cortical blindness which has left him fully visually impaired. The combination of disabilities he’s currently experiencing requires him to be under 24-hour supervision.
Andrew’s goal is to be functionally independent and the funds will be used to pay for caregivers and therapists to continue his rehabilitation in the home. While we do not know how long Andrew will require a caregiver, all funds no longer required to support Andrew’s recovery will be donated to the Hotchkiss Brain Institute to advance the understanding of hypoxic brain injuries and cortical blindness.
We’ve been overwhelmed and grateful for the support of friends and family through these past 7 months and we are forever grateful for your support now. Please share with those in Andrew's community.
