Hello everyone,
My name is Sarah, and I’m a mom to two amazing young girls and a wife to my incredible husband, Zac. Since 2007 I have had the privilege to work in an elementary school supporting students on the Autism Spectrum. It has been my life’s passion to advocate for and help my students overcome adversity and persist through the challenges their disabilities present. While I have been incredibly passionate about my work the reality is supporting students who have physical and behavioral challenges comes with a significant impact on my own physical and mental health. Since 2020 I have had multiple injuries as a result, including three significant concussions.
A little over two years ago while at work, I was trying to intervene when another employee was teasing and degrading a non-verbal student for his disability. As a result, I suffered a third concussion and two herniated discs in my neck. These injuries have entirely changed my life, leaving me with long-term effects including post-concussive syndrome, PTSD, and a seizure disorder. Because of these challenges, I am unable to work, drive, or participate in life as I normally would. On top of all of that, my district has terminated my employment and medical benefits.
Unfortunately, Zac’s company does not offer medical benefits, which means we are paying out of pocket for all medical coverage. The cost of private health insurance is staggering, with high monthly premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses for necessary treatments, medications, and specialist visits. Every doctor’s appointment, test, and therapy session is an added financial strain, forcing us to make difficult decisions about care and household expenses. The stress of managing these costs, on top of my health challenges, has been overwhelming. What should be a time of healing has instead become a constant battle to afford essentials, adding another layer of hardship to an already difficult situation.
Zac has been my rock through this, juggling 2 jobs, caring for our girls, and taking care of things at home, but we’re facing additional financial burdens that are tough to manage on a reduced income. Medical treatments not covered by workers' compensation, therapies, and everyday expenses have continued to pile up, making it difficult to focus on my recovery while also providing for our family.
We’re reaching out for support to help us cover these additional costs. Every donation will go directly towards easing this financial stress and helping us get the resources we need to heal. Any amount you can give would be deeply appreciated, and if you cannot donate, simply sharing our story would mean so much to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our journey. Your kindness and generosity mean more to us than words can express. With your support, we can focus on healing and rebuilding our lives. From the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate every donation, share, and word of encouragement
With heartfelt thanks,
