Double Mastectomy & Reconstruction Recovery

I want to thank everyone who has supported my sister, Lola, during this incredibly challenging time. Your donations, prayers, and words of encouragement mean more to us than we can ever express. After surgery and chemotherapy for ovarian cancer, Lola has been in remission for 18 months! Early in her treatment, doctors discovered that a BRCA gene mutation had caused her cancer and also put her at an almost certain risk of developing breast cancer.

This Monday, a week from her birthday, Lola underwent a double mastectomy surgery at the Mayo Clinic in MN. While the surgery was successful, the recovery is going to be a long and arduous process. Her doctors have advised that she will need 6-12 weeks to heal fully and return to “normal”. Throughout her cancer journey, Lola has continued taking classes and working as much as she could to support her goal of becoming a pathologist. Currently, however, Lola is unable to work.

The financial strain of medical bills, living expenses, and tuition is weighing heavily on her. We are doing everything we can to support her, but any additional help you can provide will make a huge difference in her ability to focus on her recovery without the added stress and uncertainty of the extended recovery period.
