During a recent routine Endocrinologist visit the Dr. suggested a biopsy on a lump found on Stefani's Thyroid Gland. The biopsy was performed on February 8th and on February 16th I heard the worst news of my life...my daughter had Cancer! I can still hardly say the word without tearing up!!
How does a 22 year old get Cancer??
Why my child??
Why anybody??
After taking it all in and trying to focus on a plan we decided to face Cancer head on!
On February 26th we spent the day at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and were given all the information on Pappillary Thyroid Cancer and all options available. We all agreed that a total Thyroidectomy would be the best option to remove the entire gland and contain the Cancer. Stefani's surgery has been postponed due to a virus and is now scheduled for this Wednesday April 13th. We have been told she will be in the hospital a day or 2 and at least a few weeks out of work. We will not know if she will be on radiation therapy until after the pathology reports are completed following surgery.
A few weeks before all of this happened Stefani and her 5 year old daughter, Emma, moved into their first apartment. Stefani works for a company that does not provide her sick or vacation time so I am reaching out to all our friends and family who wish to help and support Stefani through this trying time in her life. Her medical bills are covered but we are looking for support to help cover living expenses and to help her keep her apartment while she is out of work. It is very difficult to reach out and ask for help when so many people are facing struggles of their own. Thank you for reading this and please, if nothing else, say a prayer for Stefani and all our friends and family fighting Cancer!!
