Humberston Park Summer School 2025

Hi, and thank you for taking the time to visit this page...My name is Richard and I'm the Headteacher at Humberston Park School. We are a special school for young people, aged 3-19, with complex, profound and severe medical and physical needs. I'm looking to raise money to keep our invaluable Summer School running...

Summer School at Humberston Park offers the young people the opportunity to experience amazing activities that are fun and engaging, within a familiar and safe environment: it has run each year for between two to three weeks during August...however, due to changes in previous funding streams we are now having to seek alternative routes to fund this great provision.

There are lots of smiles, laughter and some incredible moments of awe. The specialist staff know the young people really well and this ensures that all their medical needs, personal care and physical/sensory requirements are fully supported throughout the duration of our Summer School; no opportunity for fun is missed!

Experiences include Disney Days, where the environment is Disney-themed and the young people and staff dress up as their favourite Disney characters: Mirabel, Elsa and Woody are very popular with everyone and you could be mistaken thinking you were at Disneyland…albeit for the weather…We also have on-site cinema days where tickets are purchased and popcorn is flowing, ensuring a real-life cinema experience. There are opportunities for relaxation and calmness for those who may struggle in stimulating environments. Spa days are a real favourite with lots of pampering and relaxation on offer.

Everyone has the opportunity to experience all activities and events should they choose to do so. We also have visitors to the School who bring in even more opportunities for fun: a DJ provides a disco experience that supports the complex needs of all by tailoring lighting and sound…watching everyone ‘boogie on down’ is a sight to behold and the smiles and enjoyment is something to witness.

Our experienced staff fully support the young people in all the activities/experiences that are on offer. Their knowledge of an individual’s needs ensures any anxieties about new and unfamiliar experiences are supported and managed effectively: this frequently leads to them accessing and experiencing things they wouldn’t usually entertain.

Physiotherapy, rebound therapy and hydrotherapy all continue throughout the Summer School. This ensures that the young people don’t miss out on their much-needed physical development support that is important from a health and wellbeing perspective…and yes, this therapeutic side of things is integrated in all the fun, with the Hub changing their environments to reflect a range of daily and weekly themes.

The Summer School at Humberston Park promotes HAPPINESS, FUN, LAUGHTER, SMILES, ENJOYMENT, SOCIALISTATION AND POSITIVE INTERACTION AS WELL AS RELAXATION AND CHILLOUT.

All this promotes positive mental wellbeing for our young people who attend our Summer School…more opportunities for communication and independence outside of the School’s learning programmes. The young people’s engagement and participation throughout the Summer School is amazing and infectious and everyone has the best time and are usually left wanting MORE.

If you can help by making a donation towards our target, on behalf of our pupils and their families, I'd be truly grateful.

With best wishes

Richard
