Mark was diagnosed with MS on friday 9/13/19 after fighting numbness, tingling, vision issues and stroke like symptoms on the right side of his face for the last 10 months. Based off the MRI's and the quick progression after the diagnosis, the doctor thinks he has had it for the last 5-6 years. Unfortunately, something in the last year has triggered his symptoms to be an active case of MS. Since his diagnosis, he has been placed on 2 rounds of steroids, both oral and IV. Fortunately, he has regained all sight in his left eye, but unfortunately, within the last few weeks, has lost all vision in his right eye. His legs and feet from waist down remain the same, numb and tingling. Thankfully his stoke like symptoms are gone. But, He now has numbness in his right arm, two of his fingers, and back spasms along with fighting headaches and fatigue daily. He is taking medication to minimize these symptoms. Mark is currently waiting for insurance to approve the medication the doctor has recommended for treatment. Which unfortunately could be a long process. The longer it takes, the worse the symptoms are getting. The medication the doctor would like to use is 95% effective and hes hoping to slow the progression of the MS. Unfortunately, the symptoms he has now are not guaranteed to be stopped or reversed. The mmediction is Ocrevus. Its 2 infusions a year and the cost is over $100k a year. As of now the insurance has denied coverage for the medication and they are waiting on what to do next.
In the meantime, they have had to pay out of pocket for steroid treatment and the bills are starting to come in for the multiple MRI's. This coupled with missed hours of work due to treatments, appointments, and increase of symptoms have created a financial strain for the family. We are in the process of planning a benefit for the family but this takes time and wont help offset any of the costs they are currently incurring. Mark is a young father to 3 kids, a husband, son, and friend. If you're compelled to give, this would help any financial burden they are facing.
We will continue to update as we have more news. As always- prayers and thoughts for the family are much appreciated.
