A FILM CALLED HOWL
LOGLINE
An injured hiker stranded in the woods must find their way to safety before an unknown threat closes in.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
As filmmakers in the digital age, we often lose touch with the roots of our craft. HOWL is our chance to walk the path carved by the legends before us; returning to nature, painting with light, and embracing the beauty and challenges of shooting on film.
We’ve chosen to film HOWL on 16mm, deliberately stepping away from digital convenience to push the boundaries of the film’s traditional medium. Much of our budget goes toward securing the camera, film stock, and processing. HOWL places our protagonist Alex in the woods, allowing us to take advantage of natural daylight. Still, a critical portion of Alex’s journey takes place at night, so we’ll need additional budget for the right lighting equipment to capture those moments, along with other production elements (production design, wardrobe, etc.) that can be within our control with additional budget.
HOWL places Alex in the woods. Capturing the sounds of nature is vital to Alex’s story. Unlike digital filmmaking, audio must be recorded separately and synced in post; we’re committed to capturing it at the highest professional level.
Most importantly, we couldn’t bring this story to life without a talented Hudson Valley cast and crew. We want to make sure everyone is compensated fairly and cared for on set. Good food, safe working conditions, and respect for their time are essential.
Finally, we’re determined to ensure this project looks and sounds incredible as a finished film. That means investing in post-production to make the film festival-ready.
This is primarily a self-funded short film, and we are putting everything we can into telling this story with honesty and artistry. If you believe in our vision, this is your opportunity to help us bring it to the screen.
