The year was 2016 - Jake had just arrived in California after spending four years in the Army, and I was attending grad school in Hawai'i. When I came home to Sacramento in the fall, one of my best friends paid me a visit. She and her husband stated they had a “close friend” living nearby who they said I would either “love or hate” (ha!). That friend, of course, was Jake. After hanging out with our mutual friends over the course of a week, Jake sent me a friend request on Facebook, like a true millennial. The rest, as they say, is history.
