**we lost our sweet boy 9/26/21. His vet bills ended up totaling just over $12,000. Please read his story and all the updates if you would like to know what happened, and please consider donating. Thank you**
Howard is our 9 year old jackapoo and he needs your help! Howard is currently in the hospital, racking up quite a bill. It’s never easy to ask for help (especially financial help), but Howard’s life is more important than our pride.
A little about Howard:
If you know us, you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Howard- And If you’ve stayed at our place, you’ve probably even had the pleasure of cuddling with him! He is the sweetest boy. He loves his people, even new friends he has just met. Howard has always been a healthy and happy boy that lights up the lives of those around him. He is such a smart little guy and has so much personality. Howard enjoys: walks, toys, treats, telling on the cat when he’s doing something bad, and taking naps with his [or any] humans. Howard dislikes: baths, sirens, Brussels sprouts, and the mail man.
What happened:
On Sunday morning, Howard woke up and just wasn’t himself. He was very lethargic and uninterested in going on a walk. He wasn’t interested in his kibble but did gobble up some wet food, so we decided to just monitor him for the day and take him to our regular vet on Monday if needed. But by Sunday night Howard was even more lethargic (barely moving) and felt very warm. So we took his temperature [105°] and then brought him in to the hospital. They took him in and promptly did blood, urine, and X-rays. They decided he was stable enough to send home for the night. The next morning the results came back but there was no obvious diagnosis. Howard had completely stopped eating at this point, so we brought him back in to the hospital Monday early afternoon. They did an ultrasound and decided he needed overnight hospitalization and fluids. After the ultrasound they were pretty sure he had acute moderate pancreatitis, and that overnight fluids were just what he needed. Unfortunately, Tuesday morning rolled around and Howard showed no improvement. They transferred him from the ER to the internal medicine department of the hospital. We are currently working with a new team of doctors who suspect it might be leptospirosis and not pancreatitis. They are conducting another blood panel, and well as doing a number of tests to rule in/out both pancreatitis and leptospirosis. (Results of those tests take 2-3 days) He will also need at least one more night of hospitalization. His glucose levels have also been dropping, and they aren’t entirely sure why. Howard is still lethargic, still has a fever, and still hasn’t eaten. He is currently being treated for pancreatitis (IV fluids and nausea medication) as well as pain medication and antibiotics and an appetite stimulant. My last conversation with the doctor on Tuesday night was that Howard’s fever has dropped a bit but overall he hasn’t made much improvement, and may need to be hospitalized for 2-3 days. I will continue to update as the saga continues…
I miss my little boy, and most importantly I want him to get better.
Will post regular updates on Howard’s condition, and will keep the charges section as up to date as possible.
