Howard Shields has worked at our local Hy-Vee Store for over 40years, and 2 years before that at the Hy-Vee in Osceola, Iowa. He is currently one of the butcher's in the meat department.  Married with 2 children 8 and 11 years of age.  Monday 11/28/2016 He went to the doctor about a several week old headache.  After leaving the doctor's office it got worse, and he stopped at a hospital where they found a mass in his brain.  He was sent immediately to Des Moines to Mercy Hospital where he had surgery on Wednesday evening. 
Doctor's said that the mass was removed, however it will return most likely as it was cancerous.  On Friday, Howard lost partial vision in his left eye,  and cannot judge distances currently.
When Howard is released, he will be put on Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments. 
My name is Robert Mitchell, and I am a good friend of Howard's and I am married to his wife's 1st cousin. would like to try to raise funds to help him and his family cover the medical expenses, in relation to this illness.  Howard has served our community through his great demeanor at the Hy-Vee for years, and I would like to help him in anyway possible.
The doctor said that he will not be able to work or drive for 6 months minimum, and his wife has to continue to work.   I would like to see if we can assist in anyway to help the family financially as they will have to travel 1.5 hours driving time daily for 6 weeks and then 1.5 hours per week thereafter potentially.
This is the first time that I have done something like this and I know that Howard would not ask for help himself.  I would just like for anyone that knows someone like Howard to step forward in anyway to help.
