Howard's Way: 5th to 18th June
My much loved and now late brother-in-law Howard Reece-Smith planned to cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats (LEJOG) to raise funds for his church's Building Fund. In the autumn when he first became very poorly and unable to fulfil this commitment, I stepped in to do the ride for him.
Howard and Elizabeth joined Trinity Chippenham in 2021. Founded about a decade ago, Trinity has outgrown the school it meets in. However, they have found a building that they could purchase and convert. This huge step of faith would enable them to expand their work with families and engagement with the local community including through their CAP debt centre. Your sponsorship will go to this plan.
Some of us will remember Howard and Elizabeth cycled across Africa to raise funds to equip a clinic in Serenge. Later I followed in Howard's slipstream as we cycled across Europe to equip a girls dormitory in Serenge. Then they cycled across the USA to fund a church building in Serenge.
Howard - now the late Howard - was very sorry not to be able to do this ride for Trinity's building fund. But I am cycling in Howard's place, unsupported, albeit on my e-bike. LEJOG is about 1,000 miles, with around 30,000 feet of climb.
As I edit this I have now finished my training - over 2,000 miles since January - and am now giving my body the chance to recover before the ride starts on 5th June...
When you can follow my progress on strava, download the 'polar steps' app onto your phone, or message me with your phone number and I will add you to a whatsapp group.
Will you contribute to Trinity's building fund? And pray for a strong South Westerly wind from 5th to 18th June!
Thank you!
