Howard Downs was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all who met him.
My grandparents were enjoying a normal day in their Georgia home when suddenly my grandfather Howard fell down and couldn't get up. Emergency services were contacted and paramedics arrived to transport him to the hospital. My grandparents didn't realize at the time these would be their last moments together. My grandfather had tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted into the hospital.
My grandfather fought the coronavirus for nearly two weeks - the doctors and nurses did everything they could. Finally, on Monday, December 28th, the man everyone so affectionately refers to as "Grand Dad" passed away in his ICU bed.
Grand Dad was a military veteran and a very giving man, always willing to help someone in need. He married my grandma Irene over 70 years ago and they had four children together, Billy, Theresa, Danny and Joyce.
