How Goes It? App

Donation protected
Answering the question “How are you” can be challenging when the honest truth is “not very well”, “depressed” or “anxious”. What’s even harder when you’re in a dark place is to reach out to friends or family to let them know you are struggling.

My goal is to build an app that would let you set a number 1-10 as an answer to “how goes it?” no matter what your it is – focus, addiction, weight loss, depression… Friends you trust to see your number could subscribe to be notified when your number falls below a certain threshold.

I am very excited about the vision for this project. I am also amazed at the support from the community and the progress we made so far.

Here’s a recap of where we’ve been, where we are and where we’re going:

On November 14th I wrote up a quick description envisioning How Goes It? and the benefits it could bring to the world. I shared it with my friend Leo and he convinced me it was worth pursuing despite the risks and uncertainty and committed to help in any way he could.

So on November 24th after narrowing down the MVP (Minimally Viable Product) I posted an announcement of the vision on WP Hugs. Here’s what happened in the month and few days since then:

- Many conversations with old friends and brand new friends (thanks to WP Hugs) about the project. Several people raised their hand to help make this tool a reality.
Identified a name for the project (thanks to Joe! ).
- Created project blog with vision and roadmap.
- Created wireframes and recorded a walkthrough video.
- Set up a public Trello board to transparently show progress, currently 40 cards on the board, 18 of them completed.
- Set up a Slack for team collaboration
- Set up a Twitter account
- Set up a Mailchimp account
- Researched mobile app development frameworks and selected AppPresser as the direction forward.
- Started development of the web app

Goals for January:

- Submit an application to the Annual Scattergood Innovation Award which, if awarded, could provide much needed funding for further development
- Start and complete a logo, brand and a design
- Complete the web app development (MVP)
- Complete the mobile app development (MVP)

Investment

I am grateful for those that raised their hand to help contribute their time and talents because I cannot make this happen on my own.

On a personal front so far I have invested 60+ hours of my time and 30+ hours of my contractor’s (Jakub) time. That's before creating this campaign page. In the upcoming months more investment will be necessary to bring this vision to life.

To help offset the cost of my investment, I set up this GoFundMe page. Any raised funding will go towards direct cost (licensing, contract work) and indirect cost (my time invested into this project in lieu of paid work – Did I mention I am the sole provider for my family of 7? :-)   ).

If you feel compelled and are able I would be grateful for any help in this regard.
