Houstons Family Challenge for Saving and Rehoming Strays

This year in November it will be 10 years since I started to volunteer with Claire and SRS. I was sitting in the hospital waiting on another MRI scan when a wee advert popped up to ask for any local volunteers near to where she had recently moved to, I enquired about it and 10 years later Claire still has not managed to get rid of me

I have learned so much not just about animals but also about people, when there are truly awful things going on in the world you get to see the good in people.

It must be thousands of auction parcels, 10s of thousands of photographs, millions of tears shed (I will never not be the ugly baby crier) both happy and sad, millions of laughs and smiles and countless cuddles PLUS Our wee Finn.

I saw a definition that said Volunteering is doing something you do for the love of the cause and that is so true.

I have been through some tough times like everybody has, chronic illness they could not diagnose being told multiple times it was nothing for them to fight for a diagnosis (rare respiratory disorder that means my airways do not work, lupus, the list goes on),ongoing treatment, learning to live with it, a pandemic when I had to shield and my life had to change and now with my Mum having Alzheimer's and now being in hospice getting to go and spend time with the dogs has been a lifeline I am not sure what I would of done without it. I am so very thankful and 10 years on it is a privilege to still be playing my tiny part.

To say thank you I wanted to do a challenge and hopefully raise some funds for this amazing cause. I was hoping to do a running challenge but after talking it over with my doctor it is not possible so the challenge is going to be myself, Mr Houston, Bella and Finn.

On Monday 18th August I will start and try to beat my last million step challenge of 58 days. I have a number in mind but we will see, Bella will be coming on some of the walks much to her dismay! Mr Houston is going to do the running part for me and is going to take on a 10K on 24th August and then do the Glasgow Great Scottish Run half marathon 5th October.

Finn, who we adopted last year, is going to train with him for them. He has never ran before on a lead and for some unknown reason loves it! The training has already started but I will update this page with the training.

I would like to raise as much money as I can so if you can sponsor us we would really appreciate it.

Lots of Love
Aunty Natalie
