Our dedicated volunteers are working around the clock to 3D print frames for face shields and other PPE for medical professionals and first responders. Our organization is picking up steam quickly. In the last 6 days (04/07 - 04/13) we have printed ~800 face shields and 175 ear guards donated at no cost to our essential workers.
Our goal is to produce 4000 faceshields, mask frames, and ear guards by the end of April. We have suppliers lined up to purchase bulk plastic, hand sanitizer, masks, and safety goggles to donate.
Here is a summary what we can source with this GoFundMe:
Spools of plastic - $15 each can make frames for 38 face shields
1000 face shield transparencies - $225
Injection Mold - ~$8000 ... can make face shield frames in seconds rather than hours!
Your donations will go towards purchasing plastic to refill our 3d printers, bulk supplies for our individual makers, and engaging small businesses who can manufacture on our behalf. All items purchased or produced by the group will be donated to local medical organizations at zero cost.
COVID-19 has affected all of our lives, from furloughs and layoffs to knowing friends and family members who have suffered from the disease. Open Source COVID-19 Medical Supplies of the Greater Houston Area's mission is simple; keep those who protect us geared up with the personal protective equipment (PPE) they desperately need.
We sincerely believe that the Houston Metropolitan area has a fighting spirit that is unbeatable and that together we can prevent the spread of COVID-19 and provide our medical professionals with the tools they need to go home safely.
