Housing Help For My Girls and I.

To All My Friends and Family,

This fundraiser is for us to endure the 2022 summer housing crisis here on Cape Cod. We are one of many families here, who are about to be without housing, due to the housing crisis and tourist season upon us.

 

There are more families looking for a rental than there are rentals on the market and the ones that do have availability are charging around 2 grand a week which is unattainable for the average renter. We have looked through realtors and constantly checking numerous rental sites and have found absolutely nothing. All that is available is weekly tourist rentals.

 

I have contacted the area for housing resources, and I have contacted representatives and the state Senator, and none have an answer, other than they are trying to pass bills that take time and NIMBY people of the area happens to be holding up affordable housing projects from happening.

 

I have paid rent every month, landscaping upkeep and other charges. I have kept the property nice but that still won't stop my 2 daughters and I from being without a home, in an area that brings in tons of money but won't help those who keep it going year round.

There isn't resources we haven't already tried or a list we are not already on. They have no words of encouragement or even a sparkle of hope. It's just the same response.

 

Many locals and lifers are leaving due to the fact every home is being made into a seasonal vacation rental or sold to a company that will rent it out as one. These two factors went into overdrive since the pandemic, leaving many homeless.

 

I am just trying to survive. I am more than willing to move to a new area, although I will need to abide by custody stipulations, I can choose an area and move. But with the rising costs of living in this country, it has made it impossible to keep my nest egg, an actual nest egg and I cannot afford relocation costs on top of moving into a new property, with payment costs and furniture, etc. We just really need help.

 

Most middle class have found themselves on housing lists that are miles long and once you reach the top of the list, you only have so many extensions before you go back to square one and start having to wait for months or years again to get the voucher they held in an area unable to house any but the rich or visitors. 

 

I have job opportunities in other areas. I have friends and opportunities in other areas. It's not stable to live here. We have to be out of our seasonal in a little over a week and haven't found one rental available for our family or any options. Not everyone can afford to relocate but people need to relocate to survive.

 

We have been through hell and back the past couple years. We just want normalcy again and it's not going to happen here when no real representatives of this area seem to care to make things right. I am a small business owner and was diagnosed recently with severe health issues which makes everything so much more stressful. 

 

We know life is rough everywhere and so many around us are suffering so I would never ask for help from anyone who wasn't able but for those who can donate, all funds I raise will go towards housing for us during this season,  and if we possibly make enough, we will be using funds to relocate to a place where families can find year round housing available so we are not without housing in the future. This just isn't a place for a family or anyone who isn't looking to struggle and I feel we will never be free until we can be free of this area.
