Housing Fund for the Schlottmanns

Donation protected
Hi! Most of you know that Matt Schlottmann was diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer last summer. While Matt continues to undergo treatment, the situation remains serious, the effectiveness of the treatments looks iffy, and the future is uncertain.

One thing, however, is sure: The Schlottmanns will need to find a new place to live before January 1, 2023. The house they are living in must be vacated by the end of this year.

The Schlottmanns would like to stay in their community of Silverdale/Poulsbo if possible. If Kristen ends up being the sole provider for herself and the kids, it would be beneficial on multiple levels to remain in their current community, church, and the kids’ schools.

Finding a new place is daunting, though, as housing in their area is quite expensive (both renting and buying). Indeed, securing a loan or rental could prove difficult given their current circumstances. Furthermore, Matt is not covered by life insurance.

(For those who missed the back-story: Matt was in full-time ministry at a Christian Camp at the time of his diagnosis. Around the same time, the camp was closed and sold to developers. The developers have graciously allowed the Schlottmanns to stay on campus as property managers in exchange for housing for the past several months. This arrangement is in effect only through the end of the year as the company needs to proceed with demolition and development. As for the lack of life insurance: before Matt was diagnosed, their policy was renewed at a price ten times(!!!) what they had been paying, so they found a new company. They terminated their existing policy, but the new company then denied Matt due to an aberrant--yet, ironically, not cancer-related lab value--leaving them temporarily uninsured when Matt received his cancer diagnosis.)

That was a lot of info, so here's the recap:
  • Matt has cancer and has been unable to work.
  • Kristen, too, has been unable to work due to caring for Matt and the rest of the family.
  • Through many generous people (including many of you, their friends, church, and family), God has provided in surprising and wonderful ways over the past several months!
  • The pending move has created another significant need for this family that has already been through so much.
  • Will you prayerfully consider a financial contribution to help them get into a new home?

What will be done with the money that is raised? Matt and Kristen are praying that God will make it clear. Here are a few possibilities, depending on how much is raised and what becomes available on the market:

1.) Money raised could go toward the purchase of land and toward moving a house onto that lot.

2.) It could go towards a downpayment on a house.

3.) It could go towards a place to rent (which would cost a minimum of $2000/month, and probably more like $2500)

The fundraising goal has been set at $100,000, as the first two options seem most desirable to Matt and Kristen, given their circumstances. Yet whatever amount is raised, and however the Lord leads in the situation, Matt and Kristen will be very grateful for your help!
