Housing for transplant recovery
Donation protected
My mom, Maria, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, in 2023, and she has been receiving chemotherapy ever since. She lives in a rural area and only speaks Spanish, so receiving cancer treatment has always had its hurdles. This month she will undergo a bone marrow transplant in Austin, 3 hours away from home, which will give her the best chance at survival but will also severely compromise her immune system for a year.
Maria’s housing conditions and living situation in her rural East Texas home are unsafe for a transplant patient in recovery. To support her recovery and help avoid possibly life-threatening infections in the first 100 days post-transplant, her family will rent an apartment for her in Austin where she can isolate with her daughter/caregiver and have access to fully equipped hospitals and specialists to manage her care. As she has been unemployed since the cancer left her disabled, she needs assistance to rent a fully furnished apartment during the most vital period after her transplant.
Please consider donating so that her family can ensure that she stays safe during her recovery and can focus on other parts of her care.
