Housing for The Wiggin Family

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Sarah Wiggin and I would like to share with you a little bit about our family and the reason for this fundraiser. I am married to my wonderful husband Larry and we have four amazing daughters: Samantha age 13, Kayla age 11, Hannah age 8 and Rebekah age 2.5. My husband works but I have had to put my career aside as I care for our girls. I homeschool Samantha and Hannah and since COVID, have been teaching Kayla 1:1 alongside her virtual school. Kayla is very medically complex and needs 24/7 care. She has a severe, rare heart condition, CHARGE syndrome, many other diagnosis and an extensive medical history.

Kayla was born eleven years ago. Proving to be a miracle she survived pregnancy at a 2% chance of survival. We lived at Boston Children’s Hospital cardiac ICU for the first year and went through some of the hardest times of our lives as she fought to stay with us every day. She made it through a near impossible open heart surgery along with many other surgeries and procedures. We are so thankful we live so close to the worlds best hospital and their amazing doctors and surgeons. As the years have gone by we have watched her continue to beat all odds. The baby who was going to have a tracheotomy for life, out grew hers within 2 years. The toddler that was never going to walk, outgrew her walker and is now running, dancing, and jumping around. The girl with a severe cleft lip and palate and swallowing disfunction is now able to eat and drink some delicious meals and continues to have growth with the help of her g tube. The girl who was going to be completely deaf is now able to hear with support of hearing aids and a great deaf and hard of hearing program. She continues to fight and make more milestones but it all has come with a cost. Our lives revolve around Kayla’s care and we are very limited in what we can do. As we wouldn’t change the decisions we have made, we would give anything to change the hardships and sacrifices that we live with day to day. Our fundraiser revolves around Kayla’s medical care and the local housing we need to keep her safe, thrive and most importantly a great quality of life.

The owner of the house is not in a position to sell the house to us. We have an occupancy agreement that ends on August 31st. We have
reached out to housing agencies and assistance to no avail. Once again we are restricted because of Kayla’s needs. Not only does my husband want to stay in driving distance to his work, Kayla needs to be in safe driving distance to her school and Boston Children’s Hospital. We also have in home nursing and need to keep the staff we have in place which means staying as local as possible. Our town of Easton has been more then amazing in supporting Kayla’s out of district program and I know how much of a fight that is to get from a town. We are in such a safe neighborhood and the local police and fire department has, on numerous occasions, helped us with any emergency we’ve had. This town has been such a blessing to our family.

We hope and pray that we are able to stay in Easton but with the housing market the way it is we don't foresee that happening. Our main goal right now is to keep Kayla in her school and at CHB.  There are more and more houses coming on the market as we speak and making this goal will allow us to purchase nearby. We have been truly blessed here and feel this is where God wants us to be. This is our goal for this fundraiser. So we humbly ask that if you feel in your heart to give, any amount is welcomed and no amount is too small. We want to thank you in advance for your kindness and donation.

With much love, Larry, Sarah and the girls
