Tragically paralyzed in 2006, Hillary Landers remains wheelchair bound and continues to need 24 hour care. As one can imagine, 10 years of this disability has taken a toll on her both emotionally and financially, so we are reaching out on her behalf for a helping hand with her exorbitant expenses.

Hillary is currently living in a 2 bed and 2 bath ranch in South Yarmouth. The landlord built a ramp and adapted the bathroom (at Hillary’s expense) but unfortunately the VNA has determined that she needs 2 aides to get her in and out of bed and that the bathroom is inappropriate for showers. She is in desperate need of finding a permanent home where a European bathroom can be installed that she can roll into. Also needed is a track that will allow one aide to maneuver her in and out of bed. With out this track permanently installed there are multiple days where she must remain bedridden.

Finding a suitable rental is nearly impossible given her special needs. She has relocated frequently over the past 10 years and is facing another move which adds additional stress to an already difficult situation.

Hillary is a vibrant, extraordinary woman. A single mom who raised a blind son, built a successful career in real estate on Martha’s Vineyard, she was well known as a gifted athlete. She still maintains her zest for life and enjoys getting together with friends, book club meetings, and church on Sunday mornings.

Our goal is to raise enough money to secure a modestly priced appropriate home that will address her special needs.
